Newly preloaded on Nokia N97, N97 mini and E72 devices, the popular and powerful voice recognition application can now be updated on Symbian platforms. However, the new version does not add new features but only corrects some bugs certain users encountered when using the application. Vlingo does not especially recommend downloading the new update unless specific problems occur when using the application.

Many Symbian applications, including Gravity and the official Facebook client, offer the possibility to upload images to online sharing platforms, such as Twitpic, Facebook, Youtube and others. However, uploading the same image to different servers is generally a messy task as it requires users to visit various sites on their computer or to access several applications if they wish to do so from their phone. Not only this is time consuming, it also requires huge amounts of data as the same image will be re-uploaded to different services. An excellent solution is to use Pixelpipe which allows users to upload a file to different online services directly from their phone or computer. It thus saves time and data usage as it directly uploads files to one server and is then able to spread the file over the Internet.

Although many operators offer unlimited plans nowadays, they are generally limited in terms of communication time, maximum sent messages and destinations. Therefore, many customers still have to pay to send their messages in other countries or to call abroad. However, with a basic unlimited Internet plan (or even a simple limited one), it is now very easy to call for almost nothing in Western Europe, US and Canada and to send free messages anywhere in the world!

Most of Symbian devices are e-mail capable. There are various ways of receiving e-mail on an S60 phone as it supports third party applications but also has its own e-mail client. The choice depends on what the final user intends to do, the data plan available and how often the e-mails are supposed to be checked.

Even though Nokia's flagship device remains widely appreciated, it is undeniable that the Nokia N97 has been criticized because of its slowness and lack of stability. Hopefully, Nokia listened to the customers' complaints and released a better version of its device's firmware. The N97 is now faster, stable and has some new features that will give users better experience and satisfaction. Indeed, installing this new firmware seems like having a new processor powering the N97!
