oviWe were recently telling you how great Ovi Maps was in a GPS applications comparison article, but we didn't know that Nokia would make a great announcement today and make the application entirely free! Although Maps were completely free, turn-by-turn navigation on Ovi Maps wasn't as you needed to pay a little fee in order to use your phone as a real navigation device. Not only Nokia decided that turn-by-turn navigation would become free, they also made all their premium content available for everyone without any fee, including traffic information and city guides. Therefore, willing to compete with Google's new Android GPS application, Nokia now offers Walk and Drive navigation as well as Traffic information, Safety Camera warnings and free Lonely Planet and Michelin guides and becomes with no doubt the best GPS application for Symbian devices.

The famous free browser has now been updated to version 1.5, which allows it to be fully functional on S60 v5 phones and of course support touchscreen features. But the application isn't famous for no reason. Indeed, Skyfire offers many features no other browser does, such as full Flash support, full screen browsing, automatic rotation, kinetic scrolling (on touchscreen devices), an easy to use interface and smooth zooming. Of course, the browser supports JavaScript and Ajax as well but it can also handle features unseen on any other mobile browser: It provides you with information at a glance as it integrates your Twitter, Facebook, RSS and GMail feeds directly into your homepage, so that you don't even need to access the web page to view them.

Even though Nokia announced the N900 as an Internet Tablet, many users bought it as a mobile phone. Therefore, they would like to use it in portrait mode, which is definitely more convenient if you want to use it as a cell phone, especially when walking. A first step towards use in portrait mode was the implementation of a dedicated mode in the web browser, which enabled users to use the N900 in portrait mode, but was only limited to the web browser.

Nokia announced the N900 as a mobile computer that had a phone capabilities. Indeed, the device runs the Maemo Operating System that is closer to what MID do than what smartphones are able to handle  For training issues, the Finnish manufacturer first said the N900 wouldn't sell in Lebanon because they'd need to train their Care centers for a device that could be unpopular in the country. However, the Nokia N900 actually got popular in Lebanon and many people tried to import some from other countries or buy ones that were not meant to be sold there. Many visitors also asked us how to buy it there and were worried not only about the price but also about knowing if the device they were buying was a genuine N900. To end up all these doubts but also to avoid fake devices from being bought in the country and to give people what they want (let's say it!), Nokia eventually decided to release an official version of their Internet tablet in Lebanon.
