After offering free navigation for almost all their GPS-enabled phones, Nokia is now releasing different updates for several Symbian phones. Not only the Finnish manufacturer is updating firmwares, they are also offering new versions for their applications, especially their Ovi Store. However, most of these updates are only minor ones and simply bring some performance improvements and a somehow better user experience, even though not much changes. Nonetheless, for once, almost all of them are available for all original product codes, except operator versions.

  • Nokia 5730 XpressMusic
Probably the only device in this list that gets a major update, as it has now been updated to firmware v200.12.87. Most of the changes still include performance improvements and crash fixes, even though the Web browser has been updated to its latest version. It is now faster, more stable and features a new toolbar, which is more convenient to use. The Photo Gallery is also said to have been improved to run faster, even though nothing has changed in its user interface.
  • Nokia E52

This device hasn't received any new feature, but only bug fixes and performance improvements, which doesn't change anything in terms of user interface. However, some internal applications such as Maps, Email, Nokia Music Store and the Web browser have been updated, even though no big change have been noticed here as well. Of course, this firmware being a minor update, users should not expect any new feature in this release.

  • Nokia N97 and N97 mini

Even though many N97 users have been waiting for this update for a few months, firmware v21.0.045 (or 11.0.045 for the N97 mini) does not bring any new feature in terms of user interface. However, it improves many features and makes user experience much better: RAM usage has now been optimized, which helps the phone crash less and be more stable; overall performance has been improved; the music player is now faster; the photo gallery loads thumbnails faster and some themes have been modified. Nevertheless, this new firmware does not include the latest Ovi Maps, which still needs to be downloaded separately in order to navigate for free.

  • Nokia X6

As usual with newer Nokia devices, updates simply include some crash fixes and performance improvements but nothing new. That's the case with the Nokia X6 that has been updated to v12.0.091, which is available directly to download over the air, without having to connect the phone to a computer. Nokia hasn't released any detailed information about what has been updated, but we can confirm no new feature has been implemented.

  • Ovi Store

Nokia's application store has also been updated recently. As with the device updates, not much has changed even though the interface is easier to use and faster. The new version, 1.05(611), now displays applications in tabs, a bit like Apple's App Store, which lets you select between Free, Paid and New applications. The research field has also been modified to make it easily noticeable, especially knowing that the previous one was hard to find. Finally, you can now browse applications by "channels", which are application categories, and find the software you're looking for very easily.

In order to update your device, we advise you first backup all your content on an external storage device. After that, you can check for over the air updates on your phone by dialing *#0000# and selecting "Check for Updates" in the "Options" menu. If no updates are available there, plug your phone to your computer and try looking for updates with Nokia Software Updater.
