After releasing an S60 v3 version, Skype worked on a v5 software that would fully works on touchscreen Nokia phones. Even though this version is specific to touchscreen Nokia devices, it brings nothing more than the previous client, which was already supporting Voice Calls, SMS, group conversations, file sending and of course chatting with your Skype contacts. Skype for Symbian also lets you receive calls on your SkypeIn number, call using your SkypeOut credits and access your Skype voicemail directly from your Nokia phone, which is something everyday users will definitely appreciate. The application works with 3G and WiFi connections and therefore enables you to keep in touch with your loved ones wherever you are.

Although this application seems like a great choice, many users have reported the application to excessively use the phone's RAM memory which causes the application to close immediately when you open another program that requires some physical resources, such as Maps or the Music Player. Also, the file itself weighs 6MB and can require a certain amount of space on your phone's memory, this is why we recommend installing it on an external memory (SD card or Mass Storage). Except this memory issues, the application is pretty stable and works perfectly, allowing you to use Skype as you would on your PC.

Even though Skype for Symbian is a great application, we still believe that all-in-one solutions are better, especially when they can do everything (or sometimes more) the native application does. Luckily, this software doesn't lack any particular feature as it truly enables users to do everything Skype can do, even though it doesn't have any video conversation feature yet. Nevertheless, we still believe that a solution regrouping Skype and other messaging services together, such as Nimbuzz or Fring, could be more useful, especially knowing they require less memory and Fring lets you place video calls!

I actually LOVED this app!!! Especially the fact that you can send SMSs with it (which you can't do with say fring!)

You know that in Lebanon international SMS cost a joke! Using this skype, I'm reducing this cost by half! Before it, I used to use IM+ for skype but it's sooo buggy!! But with this one, I'm really happy!

One thing you usually get with Skype that you don't get with all-in-one clients is end-to-end encryption. I have not seen any statement on the Nokia client, but if it's like the desktop client, that is a significant advantage and important feature for texting, file transfers, and calls.

Don't surrender your privacy just to get more features.
