Nokia has recently revealed they will completely revamp their Nokia Music Store and rename it "Ovi Music", which isn't very surprising as most of their services are now bearing the name of their platform. The fact that the Music Store was becoming part of Ovi was somehow expected, especially knowing the Finnish company recently made its PC music application part of Ovi; it thus sounds logic they are doing the same with the mobile service. Even though this will imply some design changes in the platform, the major change brought by Ovi Music will be the complete removal of DRM protection and of the WMA format.

Songs will soon be offered in the MP3 format, which will make it very easy for Mac users to play their songs directly on their computer. Having no DRM also means files will become easily sharable between several devices and playable using any music player, as this is the most widespread music file format. There will also be no need to download new licenses when transferring a file or formatting a phone, as those licenses will be gone very soon. However, Nokia hasn't released any information regarding previously downloaded files, especially if users will still be able to re-download them from their account and if these files will still be DRM-protected or not.

It seems that Nokia is finally following the path of the other major online music providers offering MP3 files and no protection. Let's hope the new interface will also be modern and faster, as the current one is way too slow and buggy and makes you wait extremely long to download a song. In all cases, Nokia has announced it as more user-friendly and said it will feature a new search engine providing users with more accurate results and making it easier to find the right song, which seems to prove they're on the right path!

Cool, thanks dude!

And I like the idea of having a Lebanon specific Nokia blog... Lots of localization issues and special cases can be discussed here!
