Rumors were true, Nokia is launching a new series of "cheaper" Symbian phones targeting customers with basic needs but still willing to buy a smartphone. The first device inaugurating this new range of C-Series phones is the Nokia C5, specially designed for Social Networking. What makes this new device particular is its price tag compared to what it can offer, as the C5 features a Symbian S60 Operating System, a 2.2" QVGA screen, a 3.2MP camera, an integrated GPS chip, 3G (HSDPA/HSUPA), a MicroSD slot, FM Radio and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Nokia C5 is very light (82 grams) and small (12,3 x 46 x 112 mm) even though it's a pretty powerful device. Its battery can last up to 12 hours during GSM conversations and 26 days standing by, which is one of the greatest battery lives ever for a Symbian device.

Nokia presented this phone as a social device that lets you interact with friends and family very easily. For instance, a new feature brought to Symbian by the C5 is the ability to see your friends' status directly in the phonebook, which no Symbian device could do before. We truly hope the C5 will set the tune regarding this Facebook integration, as many other platforms offer this functionality. A last point making the C5 a very social device is the fact that it comes with Nokia Messaging and Ovi Chat preloaded and makes it very easy for people to keep in touch with everybody, either by email or Instant Messaging.

The Nokia C5 will be available in Europe, Asia and Africa in white and grey for approximately € 135. No information has been released regarding an American availability.
